ABSTRACT:
Psoriasis represents a long-term inflammatory condition driven by immune dysfunction, marked by rapid skin cell growth that forms distinct red patches topped with silver scales. These typically appear on the scalp, outer limbs, hands, and low back, emerging mainly in young adults with a genetic tendency. Worldwide, it impacts around 125 million people, with rates varying from under 1% to more than 8% in different groups. Forms include plaque (most frequent), guttate, inverse, Pustular, and erythrodermic, where visible persistent plaques often cause pain, psychological strain, and social hurdles, greatly affecting daily life. Disease development stems from genetic risks interacting with external factors like tension, germs, and skin trauma. Such prompts cause skin cells to emit inflammation-boosting signals, activating antigen-presenting cells and spurring Th1/Th17 T-cell growth. Key players like IFN-?, IL-17, and IL-22 sustain ongoing swelling and fuel irregular skin buildup. More than skin-deep, psoriasis links to broader inflammation tied to joint issues (psoriatic arthritis), metabolic problems, heart risks, and mental health challenges. Elements like cell-damaging stress, imbalanced gut bacteria, and gene expression changes also contribute to worsening. Current therapies target immune pathways for better control and lasting relief. Emerging options plant extracts, Nano drug carriers, and alternative methods aim to curb swelling and aid skin healing as affordable, enduring solutions.
