ABSTRACT:
ABSTRACT: Vortioxetine is a novel multimodal antidepressant widely used for the management of major depressive disorder (MDD). Unlike conventional antidepressants, Vortioxetine exhibits a unique mechanism of action by modulating various serotonin receptors in addition to inhibiting serotonin reuptake. The drug has demonstrated significant efficacy in improving depressive symptoms, cognitive dysfunction, anxiety-related manifestations, and overall quality of life in patients suffering from depression. Vortioxetine possesses favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics including good oral bioavailability, hepatic metabolism primarily through CYP2D6, and minimal influence on body weight and sexual function compared to other antidepressants. Recent studies have highlighted its potential role in neuroprotection, cognitive enhancement, and management of comorbid psychiatric conditions. The present review comprehensively summarizes the pharmacological profile, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, therapeutic applications, adverse effects, drug interactions, dosage regimen, recent advancements, and future prospects associated with Vortioxetine.
